Extracurricular
Life
School spirit and a sense of personal accomplishment come not from
half-heartedly coming to school and eagerly rushing out at
dismissal. Learning to work with others, sharing abilities and
interests plus developing non-academic potential come from an
enthusiastic participation in any number of extra-curricular
activities. In addition to fielding interscholastically
competitive teams including football, hockey, softball, baseball,
volleyball, bowling, basketball, track, golf, swimming and soccer,
Bishop Ford has the most extensive intramural program in the
diocese. Not only do hundreds of students take advantage of this
program, but it is common to find faculty members, in the spirit
of competition and good fun, participating side by side with their
students. Students activities include those aspects of education
which take place beyond the formal classroom context. In
accordance with the philosophy of Bishop Ford, the school
maintains a large number of activities. Students are urged to
participate in as many activities as possible. There are over 30
clubs and teams available. These include:

Computers
At Bishop Ford, we have one of the city's finest inventories of
computers available to students. In addition to being integral to
courses in the math department and science labs, they are used for
research in the library and Computer Resource Center. There is
also an after-school club which is open to all students.
Sports
A very large gym seats about 1700 students and boasts, besides the
regulation-size basketball court, three side courts making it
possible for three games to be played simultaneously. Other
features include an automatic pitching machine, 2
"Port-a-Pits" used for high jumping and pole vaulting, a
football locker room and weight facility, a weight room and a
"Universal Gym" which is a body-building machine with
various stations enabling as many as thirteen students to use it
at the same time. Our own school bus and vans get a great deal of
use transporting members of teams and clubs to their various
activities.
Learning
Media Center
Our audio-visual equipment is valued at tens of thousands of
dollars. These teaching aids include fifteen 23 inch color
television sets, TV recording equipment, tape recorders, movie,
slide, filmstrip and overhead projectors, microfilm recorders and
readers, and a dozen VCRs. Our excellent school library, besides
boasting a collection of more than 36,000 volumes, is completely
computerized with access to data banks all across the nation.
Thousands of recordings cover fields ranging from symphony to rock
music, from literary works to social problems. An extensive
magazine collection complete back to 1950 and a listening book
collection are also available to all students before, during and
after the school day.
Chapel
Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, located in the center of our
building is one of the most beautiful rooms to be found in any
school in the city. Its natural lighting and eloquent simplicity
make it a perfect spot for quiet reflection and prayer. The chapel
is also of a size which allows an entire class to come together to
celebrate a liturgy or attend a class mass.
Science
There are three fully equipped science labs. They are
physics, chemistry and perhaps the most unusual, our biology lab
which is actually a combination green house and zoo. Students are
encouraged to join the zoo crew, choose from a variety of
electives which include advanced biology, human physiology, and
zoology or join the science club. All of these are ways in which
their interest in the sciences can be enhanced and expanded
